NearEastern Voices

Near Eastern Voices is an experimental and groundbreaking choral project that creates a true bridge between Arabic and Oriental Jewish music and the western choral tradition, and between Arab-Israeli and Jewish-Israeli artists. Most of the repertoire is comprised of original arrangements of authentic, traditional Arabic songs for soloist, mixed choir and instrumental ensemble, while retaining much of the style and technique of the original music.

The music director of the project is Mr. Nizar El-Khater, who has dedicated much of his time, in the last few years, to creating a musical synthesis between the treasures of Arabic song from various genres, and  western “classical” music. Most of the works in the project are sung in Arabic, and some in Hebrew. The first performances of this project took place in Burgundy, France, at the end of August 2017. Israel debut concerts took place in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in November 2017.

“This project represents a veritably revolutionary musical task. Making the connection between Arab and Jewish artists is the realization of the ideal of peace, with music being the medium. I hope that it will be a milestone in the development of a new style of Israeli choral singing, and another step in promoting peace".
