Prof. Irwin Cotler is a Canadian Member of Parliament and former Minister of Justice and Attorney General. He is a world-renowned international human rights lawyer and has served as Counsel to prisoners of conscience including Andrei Sakharov, Natan Sharansky, and Nelson Mandela. Cotler received an honorary doctoral degree from BGU in 2016 in recognition of his legislative efforts in aid of the struggle against racism and hate, and transforming the Canadian judicial system into an exemplar of equality.Prof. Cotler will discuss "The Global Political Pandemic: Combating the Resurgent Global Authoritarianism and the Decline of Democracies" with Prof. Sharon Pardo of BGU's Dept. of Politics and Government.

Cherie Blair is a Queen's Counsel and one of the founding partners of Matrix Chambers, which focuses on human rights law. She established the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, to advance female entrepreneurs as an avenue to empowerment, and she has also been active on the issues of breast cancer, children from disadvantaged communities and prison reform. She is married to Tony Blair, former UK prime minister, and was appointed  Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2013, the same year she received an honorary doctoral degree from BGU. Cherie Blair will talk with Dr. Hila Reimer, BGU's Presidential Adviser on Gender Equity, on women during the coronvirus pandemic and what her foundation is doing to help.
