!Together - leading sustainability on campus

A Quarter Century of Sustainability
In a world grappling with the climate crisis, the Technion stands at the forefront of the fight for a sustainable future, marking this month (May 2025) 25 years of its pioneering “Green Campus” initiative. The Technion’s Sustainability Front is leading an innovative revolution, transforming the campus into a living laboratory for sustainability research, development, and education.
Over the past quarter century, the Technion has continued to demonstrate that science and technology, guided by strong values and bold vision, can change the world for the better. With groundbreaking technologies, interdisciplinary collaborations, and a deep commitment, the Sustainability Front is paving the way toward a future where advanced knowledge and harmony with nature work hand in hand for the benefit of humanity.

Eight New Technion-Led Research Centers
In 2023,  the Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC) and the Council for Higher Education (CHE) launched their flagship program for sustainability and the climate crisis. The program aims to promote innovative, groundbreaking, and interdisciplinary basic research, while also advancing national goals and contributing to sustainable economic growth.
The Technion’s allocated budget for the program amounts to 70 NIS.

Nature on Campus” Photo Exhibition"
We are excited to announce the opening of the “Nature on Campus” photo exhibition, now on display at the entrance to the Central Library.
The exhibition features a selection of nature photographs taken on the Technion campus by members of our community — students, academic and administrative staff, and others — chosen from over 320 images submitted to the recent photo competition.
We invite you to visit the exhibition and experience the natural richness and beauty of our ecological campus environment, as captured through the lenses of the participants.
Come see the Technion from a different perspective — natural, green, and inspiring.

National Energy Hackathon
The National Energy Hackathon in memory of Guy Sela, sponsored by SolarEdge and in honor of Technion’s 100th anniversary, brought together students from across the country to tackle the challenge of “100% Energy Independence” through green and innovative solutions.
Throughout the day, groundbreaking ideas were born through collaboration between students, researchers, and industry.
First place was awarded to CaptAir – smart wind turbines using Morphing Wings technology.
Second place went to GrowIT – futuristic vertical farms.
Third place was awarded to SOLVER – a platform for testing and adapting renewable energy solutions.

Connecting Paths
The “Connecting Paths” project is an initiative that combines two important aspects: commemorating the history of the Technion’s buildings by sharing the fascinating stories of the structures and the people who worked in them, and promoting principles of sustainability and the preservation of the green environment.
The project creates a network of paths linking the academic institution’s buildings, with a focus on environmentally friendly and sustainable design. This unique route includes 40 points of interest spread across five perimeter walking trails throughout the Technion campus.
We invite you to explore, scan, and enjoy…
You might even discover campus stories you’ve never heard before!

Good Water

Good Water

Drink, save, and help the environment too – the water stations in the Ullman Building helped save about 30,000 plastic bottles in just the past six months! 💧🌍
Every bottle refill is a small step toward big savings and protecting the planet.

Green Vibes at the Student Festival
This year, the Student Festival, led by ASSAT, switched to using stylish ReCup reusable cups for a greener, more convenient experience. Every returned cup helps reduce waste and protect the environment, supporting a clean, sustainable future.

Student Community Garden

Student Community Garden

We are excited to announce the establishment of a new community garden at the Canada Dorms!
Initiated by the Technion Sustainability Center, the Student Dean’s Office, and supported by the Ecological Garden and enthusiastic students, we are creating a green, communal, and sustainable space that will connect us to the earth and nature — right here on campus.
Why a community garden?
A gathering place for environmental and social nurturing
Growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers — homegrown with a unique flavor
Contributing to biodiversity and improving quality of life in the dorms
Follow us for upcoming events in the garden...

Women Leading the Energy Sector

Women Leading the Energy Sector

How do you start a career in the energy industry? Some inspiring answers were shared at a special event hosted by the Technion Sustainability Front and Energy Program, in collaboration with the Women In Energy and Ignite Academia communities. We had the privilege of hearing directly from prominent women in the energy field, asking questions, discovering opportunities, and beginning to envision each of our personal paths in this industry.
The event opened doors, sparked thoughtful conversations, and created connections that will continue forward — toward a future with more women leaders in the energy sector.

Choosing Quiet
As part of an initiative by the Technion’s Building and Maintenance Department, the noisy and environmentally unfriendly gas-powered blowers are being replaced by new electric blowers!
Quieter, emission-free, efficient, and sustainable
another step toward making the Technion a green and sustainable campus, and to creating a more pleasant and healthier routine for all of us.

From Seed to Impact Event
The Sustainability Front supports research projects focused on assessing the Technion’s carbon footprint and developing ways to reduce it, using the campus as a living laboratory for experiments and new method development.
In 2023, eight research proposals were approved for funding totaling 800,000 NIS to promote “living labs” in areas such as waste, transportation, building materials, and even an escape game.
We invite you to see the research results at the annual closing event, taking place on November 26th at the Technion Visitors Center.
In 2024, 6 new research proposals have been approved for funding, and we continue to promote initiatives that will leverage the campus for innovative and applied sustainability — from the lab to real life.

“Green Break”
The “Green Break” event at the Ecological Garden was a moment of calm, community, and sustainability in the heart of campus. Hundreds of students took a break from their studies to enjoy a green atmosphere, swap-and-share stalls, food and drinks, games, prizes, and interaction with the Technion’s green initiatives.
The event, initiated by the Sustainability Center and the Student Dean’s Office, strengthened the sense of belonging and commitment to a sustainable lifestyle — in a light, tasty, and joyful way.
We also proudly used reusable cups at this event.
Take a look at the impact we made!

The Carbon Code
An engaging escape room at Technion that raises awareness of our carbon footprint through puzzles and teamwork.
Join us to make a positive impact — the Carbon Code is in our hands!

New Energy Leaders
This year, the Sustainability Center sponsored eight Technion building managers to attend a national Energy Manager course. The course equips them with tools to reduce energy consumption and improve operational efficiency, supporting Technion’s goal of a greener, more efficient campus.

Shield and Color
Fourteen new shelters were transformed into colorful, meaningful works of art. The initiative, born from the Operations and Infrastructure Division’s idea to combine improved shelter protection with creative expression, involved students, staff, and operations teams working enthusiastically together under the guidance of the Sustainability Center team, Human Resources, and the Student Dean’s Office.
The project fostered new connections and strengthened community spirit, with everyone participating  -  from concept to brushstroke - on a fully voluntary basis.
